Social media has become an important part of modern day life. It has become the main means of communication. COVID-19 pandemic had influenced and increased it’s usage.
Tens of Thousands of social media users worldwide were frustrated as popular apps went down on Monday evening. Users are unable to access the apps nor send messages, pictures and videos.
Facebook Inc’s suite of apps including messaging app WhatsApp and popular photo-sharing app Instagram were down for users, according to outage tracking website Downdetector.com.
However, social media users suggested it has to do with poor internet connection from their internet service providers. Whilst some other users too felt their devices could be the cause.
Moreover on Twitter Inc trends in Ghana, WhatsApp is trending at number one with more than 1 million tweets. Also Facebook and Instagram are second on the trend with more than 850,000 tweets.
It was reported that, the current outage was due to connection with Domain Name System (DNS).
Similarly, the messaging platform’s official Twitter handle said. “We’re aware that some people are experiencing issues with WhatsApp at the moment,” We’re working to get things back to normal and will send an update here as soon as possible.”
In conclusion, most users have switched to Twitter, Telegram or Snapchat.
