The staff and pupils of Agbozume E.P. Kpota J.H.S. located in the Ketu South Municipality, are worried about the deplorable state under which teaching and learning takes place.
According to details, the once revered academic hub which till date continues to provide nurturing to tomorrow’s minds has been abandoned and left to rot. The school which was founded in 1943 has been battling with infrastructure and furniture deficits.
Vivid accounts have revealed the torture that pupils go through during instructional hours since most of them sit on wobbly desks supported by cement blocks. This situation is making the school unattractive because most parents prefer other options. They think the environment is not conducive enough for effective teaching and learning to take place.
The Chairman of the School Management Committee(SMC), Mr. Elikplim Gosu, who spoke to rymcitigh.com, revealed that even though there are issues with infrastructure, their main priority now is solving the furniture deficiency. He also disclosed that the school needs at least twenty-five dual desks to solve the problem in Form One but on a whole, fifty dual desks would be needed to end the problem in general.
He further revealed that incessant attempts have been made to get the government come to their aid but nothing has been heard. According to him, the distribution of government desks is not happening anytime soon.
“The pupils are not motivated to learn because the environment is not conducive. The desks are not in any good condition at all. Even those that are manageable have to be supported with cement blocks. Sometimes, the pupils sustain injuries while teaching and learning is on going. I feel our future leaders deserve better”- SMC Chairman revealed.
The school is therefore calling on all the stakeholders to come to their aid, since teaching and learning is on its knees at Agbozume E.P. Kpota J.H.S.
