STEM Education: SafeFuture Ghana debuts “Girls in Tech” Programme to empower young girls at Kpetoe- DETAILS

Girls in Tech, a brainchild of SafeFuture  Ghana, held its first public event dubbed “Girls in Tech Conference and Robotic Exhibition on Wednesday, 12th October, 2022, at Agotime Senior High School. 

The 2022 edition of Girls in Tech Conference and Robotics Exhibition which was a one-day exhibition of technological projects from Girls in Tech beneficiaries shared innovative technological ideas, triggered the interest of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) among young girls and empowered young girls with requisite knowledge to make informed decisions to enhance their cognitive, socio-emotional, economic and physical development to end child marriage, poverty, teenage pregnancy among others.

Co-founder and Executive Director of SafeFuture Ghana, Mr. Providence Newell, revealed to rymcitigh.com that the Girls in Tech Programme is a community based education on programming, coding, basic electronics and robotics by SafeFuture Ghana for young girls in both urban and rural communities. The special initiative is to spark the needed interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) among girls most especially in the rural setups to solve identified problems with technology. 

The conference which received a massive attendance of over five hundred (500) patrons was tagged as the next big thing in the technological space. Some participants were teachers, parents and student girls from over ten (10) schools in the Agotime-Ziope District. Beneficiaries of the Girls in Tech programme displayed six (6) different kinds of robot. These robots were powered to excite the crowd.

The District Director of Education for Agotime-Ziope, Mr. David Kwaku Besah who was present at the conference could not hide his excitement about the well thought-through innovations on display. He expressed gratitude to SafeFuture Ghana for the impactful programme and called for all gender inclusion. He further charged the beneficiaries to take advantage of the opportunities being made available to them, especially the girls. 

Some of the participants who spoke after the conference lauded the efforts of the organizers for promoting the idea of STEM at the basic level. They hope it helps them excel in their academic endeavours.
