The Member of Parliament for Ketu North Constituency, Edem Agbana(Hon), has written officially to the Ministry of Agriculture, calling for a swift action to ensure that the College receives the needed attention.
In a Facebook post on Saturday, 2nd August, 2025, the MP disclosed that extensive discussions had been held on the issue.
“This week, I formally submitted a letter to the Ministry of Agriculture, highlighting the longstanding neglect of the Ohawu Agricultural College by successive governments”, he confirmed.
The MP also reaffirmed his personal commitment to lead the charge for the realization of the vision.
“In 2016, 2020, and 2024, we made a solemn pledge to elevate this institution. As the representative of the chiefs and people of Ketu North, where this prestigious college is located, I consider it my duty to lead the charge and do the necessary legwork to make this vision a reality”.
He further believes strongly that the dream is possible under the transformational leadership of H. E. John Dramani Mahama, the President of the Republic of Ghana.
“There is no better time to honor the promise of transforming this institution into a fully fledged University of Agriculture than during the next four years under President Mahama’s leadership. We believe the President can, and he will.”
If this dream becomes a reality, the good people of Ohawu and by extension, the entire enclave, would be grateful to the Mahama-led administration for heeding their call.
Ohawu Agricultural College (OAC) was established in 1964 by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to programmes and courses to develop middle level manpower for the agricultural sector. The College is the only accredited diploma awarding agricultural college in the Volta region of Ghana.
Despite the initial plans, the College has been neglected over the years by successive governments in terms of quality infrastructure, recognition and upgrade.
