Accra-based Multimedia Group Limited (MGL) has retracted defamatory comments made on one of their platforms against undercover journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

The MGL has stated that the “said allegations have been found to be false and same should not have been on the programme”

Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, made the allegations of bribery, corruption, extortion and impersonation against Anas on February 26, 2019.

The MP had alleged that Anas was a criminal who engaged in illegal and an evil person destroying lands and the environment.

It was during a discussion on Adom TV’s Badwam television show ahead of a then yet-to-be premiered investigative documentary on illegal mining produced by Anas.

Anas subsequently filed a suit in April in which he accused the MP of defaming him.

Multimedia staff Benjamin Kwabena Asante, known as Omanhene, (presenter of Adom TV and host of Badwam Mpensempensemu); Dominic Kissi Yeboah (television programme producer at Adom TV and producer of Badwam Mpensempensemu); and Abdulai Awudu (General Manager of Multi TV) were named as plaintiffs who allowed the defamatory material to be published.

However, the MGL, has indicated that the words against Anas Aremeyaw Anas is “most regrettable,” and should not have occurred on their platform.

“The Management of the Multimedia Group, Benjamin Kwame Asante, Dominic Kissi Yeboah and Abdulai Awudu do hereby apologise and unconditionally and unreservedly retract the allegations and comments made against Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

“Management undertakes not to further publish or reproduce the said allegations and comments on any of its platforms,” MGL added in the retraction published in the Daily Graphic newspaper.

Kweku Baako wins defamation case against Kennedy Agyapong

Adom TV is not the only platform where Mr Agyapong has made defamatory comments as he also repeated disparaging remarks against Editor-In-Chief of the New Crusading Guide Newspaper, Abdul-Malik Kweku Baako.

The MP also used Oman FM, Net2TV, Adom and Asempa to accuse Mr Baako, Anas’ mentor of being evil among others.

Mr Baako was able to secure a GH¢100,000 in damages plus cost of GH¢30,000 ruling in his favour after filing a case at the Accra High Court.
Mr Agyapong was given 30 days to retract and apologise three times on the platforms he used to defame the veteran journalist.
