The office of the former President, Jerry John Rawlings has reported the creation of a fake Twitter account in the name of Kimathi Agyeman-Rawlings to the Cyber Crime Unit of the Ghana Police Criminal Investigations Department.
According to the release seen by rymcitigh.com, the fake account bearing the handle @KimathiRawlings has been publishing falsehoods attributed to the former president’s son. The release also indicated that the handle cannot be a creation of Kimathi and the posts should not be attributed to him.
“The attention of the Office of former President Jerry John Rawlings has been drawn to the creation of a fake Twitter account that is publishing falsehoods attributed to the son of the former President, Kimathi Agyeman-Rawlings.The fake Twitter handle @KimathiRawlings was not created by Kimathi Agyeman-Rawlings and all the posts on the handle are not attributable to him”.
The statement also revealed that the matter has become a criminal issue which has since been reported to the Cyber Crime Unit of the Ghana Police Criminal Investigations Department and by extension to the management of Twitter.
“The matter has been reported to the Cyber Crime Unit of the Ghana Police Criminal Investigations Department and representations made to the company, Twitter”.
The public has been further warned to desist from actions that could dent the family’s image during this trying moment. The privacy of the family has also been asked to be respected.
“These are difficult times for the family and we request all to respect the family’s privacy and desist from actions that bring the image of the family into disrepute”, the statement read.
