The Volta Region House of Chiefs in a press release has called on the government as a matter of urgency to withdraw the security personnel from the region.
According to the details sighted by rymcitigh.com, the chiefs stated that they embarked on a fact-finding tour of the border towns in July 2020 to find out about the truism in the harassment of the indigenes from registering for the December polls and the deployment of heavy security personnel to the areas in question.
The statement also revealed that the promise made by President Akufo-Addo to form a committee to look into the issues yielded no dividend as there was an attempt by some elements to distort the facts on the ground. These people, the chiefs said are sons of the region.
Issues bothering on the deployment of security personnel to parts of the region after an invasion by a group calling itself Western Togoland Movement were also touched in the release. Not even a delegation from high profile officials could help bring a solution to the problem. Till date, nothing has been heard of this issue.
In the wisdom of the chiefs on behalf of the citizens, withdrawing the security personnel from the region would go a long way in reducing the incidence of voter intimidation on Election Day.
The chiefs finally entreated that there should be peace before, during and after the general elections.
