31-year-old entrepreneur and farmer, Vozbeth Kofi Azumah, from the Agotime Ziope District, has won the 2022 Overall Volta Regional Best Farmer Award in style. This comes at the back of his hard work for the year under review.
In an invitation letter sighted by rymcitigh.com informing him officially of the good news, the Central Planning Committee recognizes the outstanding contribution the he has been making towards the development of agriculture in the Volta Region and beyond. This year’s Farmers’ Day celebration is under the theme: “Accelerating Agricultural Development Through Value Addition”.
Vozbeth Kofi Azumah who is the Founder/CEO of Vokia Farms is well-lettered and has a lot of experience under his belt. He holds a Post Graduate Diploma in International Development Studies with Specialization in Community Development from Trent University, Canada. The young entrepreneur is also a first-degree holder in BA Social Sciences from the University of Cape Coast, Ghana.
He is always passionate about entrepreneurship, food security, Community Development and playing a key role in improving Ghana’s Agriculture sector. The New York Times, in 2019, recognized Mr. Azumah’s contribution towards “African Agriculture Innovation” as one of the “Young Millennials making farming sexy in Africa, where tilling the soil once meant shame”. More so, for his visionary guidance and undaunting leadership, he received the Young African Leadership Award in 2018, an initiative by the United State Government.
Currently, Vozbeth is part of the fifteen (15) entrepreneurs/business selected in the country to go through the Orange Corners Acceleration Program, sponsored by the Nerthalands Embassy, Ghana. Mr. Azumah is recognized by the USAID Feed the Future Program in 2018; as food security champion, after completing the Entrepreneurship and Agribusiness Development, on Building Capacity for African Agricultural Transformation.
On how Vokia Farms have fared, he disclosed that the farms have grown over the past five (5) years exponentially, from just a backyard farming of fifty (50) pieces of snails; to a fully commercialized and diversified farming business, improving on its value addition and currently, expanding further to our proposed state of the art factory site on 3.5 acres land in Agotime Kpetoe, Volta Region, Ghana. Vokia Farms is a crop farming (maize), Livestock Rearing (bee keeping, ducks, goats, cattle, indigenous fowls) and Agro-processing company dedicated to value addition to indigenous food crops.
He advised that the youth should make use of the fertile lands available in growing more food for sustenance. He also noted that the youth should not necessarily think about the big capital as their focal point when starting since growth has to be a gradual process.
If Vozbeth can do it at age 31, then, you are never too young to start. The farming population is aging hence the time is nigh for the youth to take up the mantle to feed the country and export surpluses.
Get up as a youth and be counted. People like Vozbeth should inspire you to do exploits.
