The Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists has added their voice to the call for the government to declare a state of emergency in flood-affected areas along the Volta basin. The Association also assures the government and development partners of their readiness to support efforts to alleviate the suffering of the people, particularly in healthcare.
The statement indicates that the impact of the flooding may adversely affect the health of the communities as water bodies have been contaminated with biological and chemical waste. The Association is also calling on authorities to learn lessons from the disaster to better plan future responses. The statement also calls on relevant authorities to provide basic support to the affected communities, including food and medical supplies.
