Over the weekend, the Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa cut the sod for the construction of an Integrated Waste Recycling and Compost Plant at Akrofu Xeviwofe in the Ho Municipality.
The sod-cutting ceremony which was done on behalf of H.E Nana Akufo-Addo at an event hosted by the Traditional Authority and people of Akrofu when completed would contribute greatly to solid waste management in the Ho Municipality, Agotime Ziope District, Adaklu District, South Dayi District, Kpando Municipality and North Dayi District among others.
Dr. A. Y. Letsa, explained that the plant after its completion would help in the production of organic compost for horticultural and agronomical purposes as an added advantage. This,he said, would boost agricultural production and the government’s flagship programme of Planting for Food and Jobs.
Another area that would be affected positively is the job creation sector as a lot of people would be employed within the period. It is said that the construction of the plant is replicated in all the 16 regions in order to solve the sanitation issues bedeviling this country.
The plant is being constructed by the Jospong Group of Companies and Partners. The project, the minister explained, is different from the Engineered Landfill Site of the Ho Municipal Assembly.
The regional minister used the opportunity to beseech the gathering especially the people of Akrofu, Ho, and the beneficiary Municipality and Districts to vote massively for H.E. Nana Akufo-Addo come 7th December in order to consolidate the gains made in the sanitation and water sector during his first four years in office.
