The Chiefs and people of Santrokofi, Akpafu, Likpe and Lolobi can finally heave a sigh of relief after receiving a district status. Henceforth, the four traditional areas would be under the Guan District with the district capital at Likpe- Mate.
Historically, the four traditional areas used to be part of Hohoe Municipal until the referendum that ceded them to the Oti Region. Due to the change, they do not have representation in parliament because, they could not vote in the Hohoe Constituency which is in the Volta Region.
The situation also meant that they could not have been added to the Jasikan Constituency either.
Until the inauguration, the four traditional areas were under Jasikan District.
Sources say that even though the SALL residents believe that this is too late in the day, they are happy that finally, development can get to their respective towns since the national cake cannot pass them by.
Speaking at the inauguration which came off on Friday, 8th October, 2021, the Minister for Local Government, Regional Reorganisation and Development, Hon. Dan Botwe, expressed delight about the creation of the Oti Region and the Guan District. He noted that last babies are always pampered so the district will have all the attention it needs to thrive.
He also revealed that even though Likpe -Mate is the district head, some departments will be distributed among the other three communities: Santrokofi, Lolobi and Akpafu.
