The Adutor Health Centre in the South Tongu District of the Volta Region has launched a weeklong of activities at a brief ceremony to mark its 45th anniversary which is expected to be climaxed with a grand durbar of stakeholders on Saturday, 21st September, 2024 at Adutor.

The Adutor Health Centre which was established in 1979, currently provides Out Patients’ Department (OPD), Maternal and Child Health (MCH), Ante Natal Care as well as Community Outreach and other health-related services to more than six thousand (6,000) residents in over twenty-five (25) communities in twelve (12) electoral areas including Adutor itself as well as Avuto and Akutukope amongst others.

The anniversary is being marked under the theme, ‘Transforming Lives Through Health; The Role of Adutor Health Centre’.
The event is aimed among other things at raising a total of Five Hundred Thousand Ghana Cedis (Ghc500,000.00) not only towards the expansion of the OPD of the Health Centre but also the provision of other critical facilities that would form the basis for the eventual upgrade of the facility to the status of a Polyclinic.

The Health Centre also faces serious infrastructural challenges as all its structures have not seen any major renovation over the years. Apart from leaking roofs, weak and falling ceilings as well as serious structural defects on the main buildings including the traditional staff bungalows, access road to the Health Centre from the main Dabala-Adutor road, is nothing to write home about.

The compound of the entire Health Centre is also not paved, creating nuisance and accessibility difficulties especially during the rainy season.
As part of the launching which partly focused on the school children, pupils of the Roman Catholic (RC) and the Evangelical Presbyterian (EP) Basic Schools in the town, undertook a one-hour float through the main Adutor Township and the health facility before finally converging at the E.P. Church Chapel for the official launch. The school children carried placards some of which read, ‘Adutor Health Centre Is 45’, ‘Our Health, Our Life’ and ‘Avoid Drub Abuse’.

Other activities lined up for the anniversary celebration of the Adutor Health Centre include health screening and talks, quiz competitions and sports events amongst others.
Dignitaries expected to grace the grand durbar on Saturday include the Board Chairman of Star Oil Company Limited, Mr. Vincent K. Kaledzi as Chairman of the occasion, the Regional Minister, Hon. Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa, Deputy Regional Director of Health Services, Dr. Senanu Dzokoto, the Member of Parliament (MP) for South Tongu, Hon. Wisdom Kobena Mensah Woyome as well as the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area, Hon. Innocent L. K. Tetteh.

Launching the anniversary after the float event on behalf of the District Director of Health Services (DDHS) for South Tongu, Miss. Mavis Agumeh, the District Health Promotion Officer, Ms. Melody Enam Bedi lauded the Adutor community for their great interest and support in promoting positive health issues in their community over the years.
According to her, the theme of the anniversary hinges on four (4) pillars namely the health provider, stakeholders, resources as well as the community members including the children. She called for effective collaboration and support from all players under the pillars to guarantee quality health care for all and sundry in the catchment area and beyond.

The Chairman of the Anniversary Planning Committee, Hon. Joseph Oscar Kwame Azaglo noted that the role of the Adutor Health Centre in the promotion of quality healthcare delivery to the people of the area, cannot be over-emphasized.

He commended the staff of the facility for their support and sacrifices and urged them not to rest on their oars.
