The President of the Republic of Ghana, HE Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has announced in his update number 21 that children in kindergarten and basic schools in both public and private schools in the country will be back to school from 15th January, 2021.
The president also revealed that SHS 1 and SHS 3 students will no longer run the double track system.
“ I must stress that SHS 3 students in all schools, like SHS 1 students will no longer run the double track system. The expansion of infrastructure at the various senior high schools over the last three (3) years, has brought us to this favourable situation “.
SHS 2 and SHS 3 students will however return to school from 18th January, 2021. SHS 1 students will start classes from 10th March, 2021.
The reopening has become necessary after a consultation with all stake holders. Parents have also been assured of the safety of their wards as the COVID-19 protocols would be strictly adhered to in the schools.
This has come as a great relief for private school teachers who have been at home without any source of income since the closure of the schools in March 2020. The COVID-19 pandemic has taken a heavy toll on businesses across the country and private schools are part of the most affected.
