SAD NEWS: 55-year- old man killed by armed robbers near Akatsi.

The Akatsi Police are on a manhunt for armed robbers who attacked and killed a middle-aged man at Tordzinu, near Akatsi. The deceased was said to be wearing black trousers and yellow t-shirt with MTN logo. 

According to reliable information available to, the said unfortunate incident occurred on Tuesday, 6th April, 2021.

According to a distress call made to the police, the deceased, one Francis Korku Dey, was attacked and shot near Tordzinu, a town close to Akatsi. 

After an inspection of the crime scene and the body was done by the police, it was realized that the deceased had sustained a gun shot wound in the left ribs. An empty cartridge shell was also retrieved from the scene. 

The body was later conveyed and deposited at St.Paul’s Hospital mortuary for full autopsy to be carried out. 

In a strange twist of events, the same armed robbers, who are currently on the run, succeeded in robbing an MTN merchant by name Israel Nanenu. This was after he arrived at the spot where the deceased, Francis Korku Dey, was killed. The robbers made away with the sum of Gh13,800.00 cash, one MTN mobile phone loaded with Gh900.00 electronic cash, another mobile phone loaded with Gh900.00 Vodafone electronic cash, Airtel SIM loaded with Gh400.00 electronic cash and unspecified number of recharge cards. 

Preliminary investigations conducted by the police revealed that the mobile money merchant, Israel Nanenu, was their prime target but they mistook the deceased for him. The armed robbers fled the scene after the act. 

The police are however on the lookout for them and are calling on the general public to assist in bringing the perpetrators of the heinous crime to book.
