Two suspects, Awatey David Okra and Amenuvor Nicholas aged, 22 and 20 respectively, were arrested on the suspicion of possessing human parts in their cab. The incident occurred on Wednesday, 7th April 2021.
According to a detailed account of the activities leading to their arrest, the unit committee chairman of Kwamekyere Electoral Area, Aware Isaac, together with Aquah Emmanuel Akoto Thurkson brought the issue to the attention of the Coaltar Police station.
Details of the report stated that a Daewoo taxi cab with registration number GE 5063-15 with the above named occupants from Suhum direction towards Kwamekyere, a community in the Ayensuano District, was intercepted on the suspicion of carrying some contraband goods.
One of the occupants managed to escape with a pan containing some unidentified materials and when a search was conducted in the taxi, it revealed a black suit case containing some old bones suspected to be that of human bones. Suspects were re -arrested and when interrogated, they alleged to have been sent by one Djoka of Niifio near Suhum to deliver the suspected bones to a fetish priest named Gagba of Kwamekyere village.
The police together with both suspects, visited the shrine of the said Gagba but he was absent. Upon further investigations, the police spotted a newly buried pot within the premises containing an old skull also suspected to be human skull and a pan stuffed with fetish regalia.
The suit case with the bones, the pot containing the skull and the pan with its contents were retained for evidential purposes whilst the two suspects were detained for further probing.
Meanwhile, efforts are underway to trace and apprehend the other accomplices for the appropriate action to be taken. The bones and the skull have been sent to the Police Hospital mortuary for preservation, determination, examination and identification.
