It was a beautiful sight to behold when AGOSEC was crowned the overall champions at the 47th Annual Inter-School Sports Festivals, held at Mawuli School.
The five- day sporting festivals which was under the distinguished tutelage of Dr. Esther Adzo Yeboah-Adzimah (Director of Education, Ho Municipal) had everything befitting of a competition. This year’s festivals was themed: SPORTS A TOOL FOR POSITIVE FORMATION FOR THE YOUTH.
In all, fourteen schools from four district/municipal assemblies competed in soccer, volleyball, handball, basketball, table tennis, netball, cross country and athletics to the admiration of thousands of spectators who throng the game village.
At the end of the competition which was capped by a beautiful ceremony, AGOSEC, one of the senior high schools located within the Agotime-Ziope District, topped the medal table with the most accolades. Officially, the school took the overall position and are the champions going into the next sporting year. A total of twenty-five(25) medals were garnered by the team: Gold- 13, Silver- 6 Bronze -6.
There were resounding performances by the table tennis team which resulted in two gold medals for both boys and girls. The athletics team also had the overall position for the boys and girls categories respectively. Finally, the cross country girls team succeeded in defending their trophy which they won three years ago.
Speaking to rymcitigh.com after the declaration of proceedings, the team’s spokesperson, Mr. Justice Agbodzakey who doubled as the girls soccer team coach, revealed that it took the team great verve to clinch the ultimate. According to him, even though the financial impediments were never going away, the team persevered and made their efforts count. He paid a glowing tribute to the Headmaster of the school, Mr. Eric Etornam Sunfra, for his meritorious leadership that has brought the school thus far.
Other members of the coaching staff were: Mr. Joseph Kwaku Duah (PE Master), Mr. Maxwell Adom (PE Master), Mr. Japheth Letsa (PE Master), Mr. Bright Dzotsiafe (Table tennis coach), Madam Charity Samlafo (Netball coach), Mr. Jonas Gafah (Volleyball coach), Mr. Mawuli Tengey(Boys soccer team coach)
From all indications, AGOSEC really did a lot to get the ultimate, collectively.
