Born Gabriel Kwabla Tanko Kwamigah, the young politician known by many as Tanko, has already become a towering figure as far as attending to the needs of the society is concerned. As a politician and entrepreneur who is serving on the National Welfare Committee of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), he is also the CEO of Sesi-Edem Company Limited, a licensed and regulated gold mining business committed to responsible and eco-friendly practices. The company excels in the global export of high-quality gold dore bars and adheres to stringent sustainability standards. Tanko is also the founder of TK Realties, a real estate company that has developed exquisite homes across Accra. He hails from Weta, located in the Volta Region, Ghana. Weta is the birth place of the renowned poet, Kofi Awoonor.

Tanko’s philanthropic works are dotted around the Volta Region and beyond. He has done a lot through the Tanko Foundation, an organization focused on education, healthcare, economic empowerment, and community development throughout Ghana. Safe to say that the brand TANKO is an embodiment of compassion, determination, grit and excellent leadership.

When the news team chanced on him for an insight into his life, he disclosed that his long-term goal is to see the Tanko Foundation continue to empower communities and create lasting changes in the areas of education, healthcare, and economic development. He further disclosed that his multifaceted approach to leadership- combining business acumen, political engagement, and philanthropy-ensures that his contributions to Ghana will be felt for generations to come.

Indeed, he relishes the opportunity to represent the Volta Region at the Council of State as a good one since it has always been his desire to lead and serve humanity. He reckoned that working with President John Dramani Mahama is something that he looks forward to. Together, the region would benefit from his efforts in empowering the youth and the vulnerable in the society. He has promised his unfettered commitment to transforming the Volta Region if given the nod.

He is a dedicated member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), serving on the National Welfare Committee. His political career includes a bid for the parliamentary seat of Ketu North, where he emerged as a strong contender. According to him despite not winning, he has remained a steadfast supporter of the Ketu North Constituency, contributing significantly to the community’s welfare and development over the years. His commitment to the NDC and his constituency showcases his passion for public service and political engagement. He has a long list of contributions made to both the party and his community as a whole.

Aside his philanthropic contributions, Tanko is also well-lettered. He had his secondary school education at Presbyterian Boys’ Senior Secondary School, Legon and then proceeded to have his first degree at the University of Ghana with BA in Sociology with History. Tanko also holds an International Executive MBA in Project Management from the Paris Graduate School of Management as well as an International Certificate in Public Private Partnership from Kenya. He is currently pursuing his doctoral studies for Public Policy and Administration at Cavalla International University in the USA .
