Anlo State condemns the actions of Western Togoland Restoration Group.

The Office of the Awoamezi in a press release on the 27th of September, 2020 , condemns the recent disturbances on the Accra-Aflao and Accra-Ho roads by the secessionist group. 

The Awoamefia of the Anlo State H. R. H. Torgbui Sri III, the Chiefs, Queens, Agbotaduawo and his entire Administration condemn in no uncertain terms, the recent disturbances on the Accra-Aflao and Accra roads by a certain group, calling itself the people of Western Togoland.

the release stated. 

The press release also went on to say that the Anlo State, its chiefs and the people do not approve of the actions of the group in question. 

I wish to state categorically that the Anlo State, its chiefs and people does not associate nor approve of the actions of such people and firmly disassociates itself from their subversive actions.

There is also the reaffirmation of support for the unity and sanctity of the sovereignty of the state of Ghana and the expectation is that, those behind this unlawful act would be punished without fear or favour to serve as a deterrent to others. 

Background 

On Friday, 25th September, 2020, some roads leading to Volta Region were reportedly blocked by secessionists calling themselves Western Togoland Restoration Group. The group was said to have held hostage three officers of the Ghana Police Service. As a result, long queues of vehicles with commuters were left stranded for hours.

It took the intervention of the military to restore law and order and some of the culprits were arrested.
